The Test That Stumped Them All - Dream Theater Drum Cover by Martin Schommer

About 20 years ago, I decided to become a professional musician. Among other things, because of the following incident...

by chance, a musician colleague of mine (Paul Genten - RIP) played a CD by Dream Theater on a trip to a gig. I was very impressed by it, because I had never heard anything like that before - consider that there was no Youtube or Spotify. All the virtuoso passages and beat changes had impressed me a lot and led to the fact that I virtually soaked up their albums and "tried" to play them, which I succeeded in doing better and better over time. I learned to hear meter changes, transcription, endurance, double bass, etc. The CD "Live at Budokan" had probably suffered the most wear and tear. With that, I really got on the neighbors' nerves.
At that time, I was a big Mike Portnoy fan. He can therefore be considered as one of my main sources of inspiration and motivation. However, I completely lost interest in this style of music and concentrated on other styles.
But somehow, I really wanted to play full power again, like back then. That's how this cover came about. No music for everyone, but I don't care at all ;-)

Rehearsed on Saturday and recorded on Sunday in one take without editing and sound processing (just my in-ear sound).
