On March 31, Bittrex, a well-known cryptocurrency exchange, announced that it will halt its operations in the United States and will only serve global customers going forward. The company plans to fully cease U.S. operations at 12 p.m. PDT on April 30 and has set deadlines for all U.S. trading by April 14. U.S. customers will have access to their accounts until the last full day of withdrawals on April 29. The company faced regulatory challenges and was fined by OFAC and FinCEN in October 2022, as well as barred from New York in 2019. Bittrex's CEO, Richie Lai, said that the service halt is due to "regulatory uncertainty and a lack of interest from U.S. regulators regarding sensible policies." Despite its departure from the U.S., Bittrex remains committed to growing Bittrex Global, which serves customers outside of the United States.
