The founders of eco-friendly swimwear brand Stay Wild – Natalie Glaze and Zanna Van Dijk – met by chance, via social media, over their shared desire to make a difference. “Stay Wild came from our joint passion for the ocean,” Van Dijk tells Clara Amfo in the latest episode of BMW and British Vogue’s The Extra Mile series.

“We wanted to create a brand that not only tackled the ocean plastic crisis but actually provided a solution to it.”

Created using Econyl, recycled nylon made from discarded fishing nets and other industrial waste, all of Stay Wild’s pieces are manufactured in its London-based factory. ”For us it was important that the garment workers are paid well, that [we think] about every element of what we do, from production to the small details,” Glaze explains.

Beyond its ethical and sustainable practices, Stay Wild also promotes wild swimming’s physical and mental benefits. “It sounds crazy, but it’s so fun to push yourself with your friends next to you, have a little squeal and a scream, and get in that cold water,” Van Dijk says.
