The El Yeso reservoir is located in the interior area of ​​the so-called Cajón del Maipo, adjacent to the Laguna Negra, and is formed by capturing the waters of the Yeso River , one of the most important tributaries of the Maipo River . The dam was built for ten years and was inaugurated in 1964 . The reservoir has a capacity of 253 million cubic meters, being the main source of drinking water supply for the seven million inhabitants of the Metropolitan Region and the Santiago conurbation .
