Experience the vibrant Muslim life in Leicester, UK’s Islamic hub! From bustling halal streets to stunning mosques, this vlog reveals what it’s REALLY like to be Muslim in the uk.
I started this Leicester vlog at the train station, walking through the heart of the city towards Evington Road, a place known for its strong Muslim community, halal shops, and masjids on every corner. It instantly reminded me of my hometown Nottingham — but with an Islamic vibe similar to areas in London.
The first thing I noticed was the sheer diversity. From Pakistani and Indian Muslims to reverts like myself, Leicester truly felt like a city where Islam is lived and loved. I entered an Islamic shop selling oud, spoke to locals about what it’s like to live here, and was amazed by their answers: “It’s peaceful, full of madrasahs and beautiful masjids.”
Along the way, I had some funny moments trying to communicate with brothers who didn’t speak English a reminder of the deep cultural roots in Leicester’s Muslim scene. One man even told me there’s issues in the area, something rare to hear these days.
Then I visited Masjid Umar, considered the second-best mosque in the UK. It’s huge, modern, and surprisingly accessible. Inside, I found features I’ve never seen in a masjid before: elevators for disabled worshippers, a private sisters’ entrance, separate wudu areas, and even an Imam’s office.
Thanks to a local friend, I got exclusive access inside while it was locked outside of salah time, a rare behind-the-scenes look. It made me proud to see how much thought had gone into making this place welcoming for everyone.
Next up, I visited the famous Pak Store — think of it like the halal version of Tesco or Asda, with everything from Islamic snacks to a massive halal butcher section. I grabbed a Salaam Cola and continued my walk.
What really touched me was seeing young children in Islamic clothing leaving madrasah on their summer break. While most kids are off school, these children are still connected to their deen — it was inspiring.
Then I visited Spinney Hill, a Muslim-run rehab and counselling centre. I sat down with the sisters working there and was blown away by how they’re serving the Muslim community: gym facilities, salah areas, private counselling rooms — all focused on helping Muslims struggling with addiction and mental health.

I prayed Zuhr at Jami' Masjid, a breathtaking mosque that looks like something straight out of Madinah right in the middle of terrace houses! And for the first time ever, I heard the adhan being called publicly outside in the UK.
Finally, I visited a Muslim revert support centre Light Of Hira a place that touched me deeply as a revert myself. There I interviewed a respected brother who explained exactly what happened during the 2022 Leicester riots a tense time where communities were tested, but Muslims responded with wisdom and unity.

As a Muslim revert, this day meant a lot. I finished the video at a local community centre for reverts and spoke to a respected brother about the Leicester riots of 2022 — what really happened, and how the Muslim community responded.
