This is the first in a walkthrough series that will simplifies the integration of Interswitch's Payment Gateway (IPG) and Value Added Services (VAS) APIs.

In this video, Gabriel Mogaji, a member of the Interswitch Developer Community, explains the two core authentication mechanisms securing Interswitch’s API platform:

1. OAuth 2.0: A standardized protocol where developers generate an access token by encoding their client ID and secret key in Base64. This token, used as a Bearer token in request headers, authorizes API usage.

2. Interswitch Auth: An approach for our existing legacy application users where each API request include headers such as Nonce (unique request ID), Timestamp, Signature (a cryptographic hash computed via SHA1 over request parameters), and Authorization (Base64 encoded client ID).

All API requests must be sent over HTTPS, and unauthorized requests without valid credentials return HTTP 401 errors.
