Once you are engaged, especially when you go to a church in the South, people have all
sorts of advice for you. Everyone tells you to talk about how you will do your finances, what will
happen if one of you loses your job or gets very sick, if you will compromise on a brand of
toothpaste. They tell you to talk about where
you want to live, who will be responsible for which chores, how you will parent your children, if
you even want children, how many dogs is too many dogs, and which way the toilet paper goes
on the holder (over or under).

No one ever tells you to talk about what you will do if you have
infertility issues. Or at least, no one told us.
Tigi Vinson is a Texas native and co-founder of a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving the foster care system. She and her husband have been foster parents for almost five years and have had nine children in their home throughout that time. Tigi is pursuing a degree in Social Psychology and Social Justice in an effort to better impact the legal systems in place. Tigi lives with her husband, their two dogs, and at least one son (depending on the day).
