The Palaszczuk government is "totally failing" to provide even basic personal protective equipment to public schools with some not even having soap in their bathrooms says Teachers' Professional Association of Queensland state secretary Jack McGuire.

"In the public sector we've seen a total critical failure from this state Labor government to be able to provide even basic PPE," Mr McGuire told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.

"We're still hearing everyday from our members that bathrooms don't have soap in them, (while) hand sanitisers aren't in schools, let along every classroom".

Mr McGuire said, "it would appear the QTU (Queensland Teachers’ Union) is bullying the government into not going back to school" as the debate continues as to when students should be back in the classroom.

The Queensland Teachers’ Union had recently warned parents to prepare for homeschooling to last until the end of June in a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19.

"The conversation we really should be having at a state school level is how can we safely get teachers back into the classroom, back in front of children".

"Because we know that is the best way for children to learn, is to have classroom teaching with teachers out the front".
