Only way up to summit of Mt Yale 14,196ft Colorado 14er starting for the avalanche trailhead of Rd 365 cottonwood wood pass road Buena Vista. Is a 10.5 mile round trip through the east ridge of Mt Yale with a 5000ft vertical gain. Starts out first couple miles are kind of steep with a good bit of gain, after 3.1 miles the Colorado trail continues, but if you are going to Mt Yale you need to make a left turn at this point. It is well marked with a big arrow and has a good spot for camping if needed to stay overnight. By now you are almost at treeline where you can see the trail on the east ridge beautiful spot for pictures and a nice little decent before the real climb continues. When you get to the saddle you want stay to the left side of first set of Rocks and come up again to the ridge right after you pass them. From here is just a straight shot to the summit, really steep the last 1/2 mile and trail is hard to find but you can see cairns along the way but you can always choose your own route on boulder field. Summit is at 14,196 ft and is normally a beautiful sight, I just happened to be there on a cloudy day.
