Cracker Barrel's co-founder spoke out following the controversial revolving around the company's recent logo change.

At 93 years old, Tommy Lowe vividly recalls the day he unlocked the doors to the first Cracker Barrel on September 19, 1969.

"That was a Monday morning I went out and unlocked the door and the people just came in," he told WTVF.

The venture, a partnership between Lowe and Dan Evins, combined an old country store, restaurant, and filling station, but required financial backing.

"It took forever to find ten guys to put up $10,000," Lowe said when speaking to the station.

Despite initial uncertainty, the concept flourished, growing to over 600 stores. Lowe described the original vision as "just a country store for country people," a sentiment reflected in the original menu.

"We served a center cut piece of country ham on there with three eggs, grits and hashbrowns and biscuits and jelly and gravy," he told the outlet.

Recently, Cracker Barrel faced backlash after a brand refresh altered its iconic logo.

"Oh that's crazy .. it's bland. Nothing.. it's pitiful," Lowe said of the new design when speaking to WTVF.

Following public outcry and a stock plunge, the company reversed its decision.

Lowe, who served as vice president of operations and later as a board member, criticized the direction under CEO Julie Masino.

"The CEO is coming up on 2 years in that position has she ever stopped by?" he questioned. "Oh I don't have any idea who she is," he added, expressing doubt about her understanding of the brand's history.

Lowe emphasized the importance of simplicity and authenticity, telling WTVF, "If they don't get back to keeping it country then it ain't gonna work."
