Heritage Tour of Bombay High Court

The British had received 7 mosquito infested marshy islands of Bombay (now Mumbai) as dowry. They transformed it into a fortified town. As it became commercially prosperous, they decided to complete the evolution by making it into the First City of India on par with the beautiful European cities.

When ships entered Bombay, they wanted visitors to lay their sights on grand, magnificent buildings showcasing their Imperial Power.

They demolished the Fort Walls and in that vacant area, they built important buildings housing the Civil and Sessions Court, the Bombay University, the Bombay High Court, PWD building…..all are UNESCO designated World Heritage Monument, Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble of Mumbai.

Bombay High Court is a miniature of a German Castle. It’s time, we take pride in our inheritance.
