The Morbi bridge was supposed to connect two royal palaces of the time, the Darbargadh palace and the Nazarbagh palace. To build the 1.25 m wide and 233 m long bridge, the latest technology available in 19th century Europe, was used at an approximate cost of 3.5 lakh rupees at the time. The bridge was an engineering marvel built by its former ruler, Sir Waghji Thakur. Inspired by colonial architecture, the bridge was built in the 19th century…much like the Lakshman and Ram Jhoolas on the Ganga in Uttarakhand.
