"Are you an Author?
Do you suffer from lack of energy, insufficient time and lowered productivity?
…do we have a product for you!..."
ok ok, all joking aside. This is a serious topic.
I am an indie author, I have a family, a job, and very little time to write..
…and of late, almost no energy, lowered productivity, and mounting frustrations.
So I did what I have always done, threw myself into months of research, journals, documentaries… until I started to scratch the surface of it…
You see.. I was always led to believe that inspiration and creativity were the driving forces behind my productivity.
I have been wrong for so many years.
Habits make you productive.
Before I explain, let me make this clear… you, are always creative. If you are a musician, an artist, an author, whatever you do, you, are, creative. That is innate. It is part and parcel of whom you are. Nothing external can take that away from you.
All of this has to do with the Locus of Control:
(Locus of control is the degree to which people believe that they, as opposed to external forces, have control over the outcome of events in their lives. This concept was developed by Julian B. Rotter in 1954)
Understanding that you have an internal locus of control, keeps you motivated, because you have control, you can directly impact your progress and ability to produce work.
People who perceive that their motivation stems from an external source such as inspiration, are more likely to write less, procrastinate more and give up more often.
An external locus of control means you are not in control. Whatever you do, you are just a passenger, you're not in charge. So why bother? When failure comes your way, and it will, your go-to line becomes an external cause. There was nothing you could have done to stop it. Right?
WRONG!
So let's look at some Habits that you can use as tools of internal locus of control.
