If you're newer to lifting and weightlifting shoes, then you may have wondered, "Can I wear weightlifting shoes for deadlifts, too?"

It's not a crazy ask since we wear weightlifting shoes for a variety of other movements where a heel wedge is desired and needed. However, for deadlifts, MOST lifters (excluding weightlifting athletes in some contexts) will benefit from not wearing weightlifting shoes for their pulls.

If you've been wearing weightlifting shoes for your deadlifts and you're NOT a weightlifting athlete with a sport-specific reason to, then you may want to ditch for flatter footwear.

NOTE, this video is not directed at weightlifting athletes that wear these shoes for sport-specific reasons!

When we think about the deadlift, and especially as get start to get heavy (relative to our strength levels), pulling becomes a game of inches.

If we're shifting knee and hip mechanics and elevating the heel adding range of motion to our deadlift, then we'll be lifting from a sub-optimal point of view.
