As we approach the Summer Solstice, which occurs at 20:51 UTC this Thursday, 20th June 2024, I am going to talk about the importance of this astronomical date to the Neolithic farmers, astronomers and monument builders of ancient Ireland. While the winter solstice sunrise alignment of Newgrange, and the winter sunset alignment of Dowth South are well known, is there any evidence that the summer solstice was important to the Neolithic astronomers?
