In response to these developments, Yunus is also pushing for a complete gag on speeches by Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, and is reviewing existing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with India.

Jashimuddin Rahmani, the leader of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), was recently released on parole from Kashimpur High-Security Central Jail in Gazipur. Rahmani had been serving a sentence for his role in the murder of blogger Rajib Haider and other terrorism-related charges under Bangladesh's anti-terrorism laws. His release raises significant concerns for India, as ABT, banned in Bangladesh in 2015, has since rebranded as Ansar al-Islam, also banned in 2017. The group's attempts to strengthen its presence in India through sleeper cells are alarming, with several affiliates already arrested in the country. Rahmani's parole has prompted regional security concerns, especially as India remains vigilant against extremist activities.
