This is my 2024 Etsy Design Awards Application video.

My journey as a maker and entrepreneur is deeply intertwined with my personal identity, which has shaped both my shop and the items I create. Initially, I struggled with traditional employment, finding myself overcommitting and frequently underappreciated. This drive for perfection and deep focus on details often led to stress and misunderstanding in my professional life.

The pivotal moment came after I started my Etsy shop in 2012. The platform became a haven where I connected with a community that appreciated the meticulousness I brought to my crafts. However, the real clarity about my identity came from an unexpected source—my assistant Koda. His casual observation about my possibly being neurodivergent led me to seek a professional diagnosis, confirming that I am Autistic.

This revelation was transformative. It explained my deep, intrinsic fascination with creating intricate, moving pieces—my 'special interest' that had long directed my passions and efforts. Recognizing this has allowed me to embrace my unique approach to craftsmanship, focusing on designs that delight in motion, such as our signature spinning rings and kinetic jewelry.

Being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world presents communication challenges, but with a supportive 'studio family' and an understanding community, we've thrived. Our studio is a testament to the strength found in diversity and the beauty of creating spaces where different minds can collaborate effectively.

My personal identity as an autistic individual inspires every piece we create, each item a celebration of detailed artistry and mechanical wonder, crafted not just to wear, but to interact with and experience.
