U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the government has revoked hundreds of student visas as part of an immigration enforcement policy targeting foreign nationals who participate in protests and disturbances on university campuses. F-1 visas, he emphasized, are granted exclusively for academic purposes and not for engaging in activities such as vandalism, building takeovers, or harassment of other students.

The remarks were made in the context of several recent cases, including that of a foreign student whose immigration status was revoked after taking part in protests, namely Turkish PhD student at Tufts University, Rumeysa Ozturk. Rubio stated that once a visa is revoked, the individual is no longer legally present in the country and may be deported, underscoring that the United States, like any sovereign nation, has the right to decide who may enter and remain within its territory.
