Transcript: Per InsideEVs, a new study from the Union of Concerned Scientists reveals that driving Electric Vehicles now produces lower emissions in most parts of the United States. In 2012, only 45% of Americans lived in regions where EVs were cleaner than gas cars.

Today, 93% of US territory benefits from lower emissions with EVs. The study highlights that even in areas like Texas, where over 60% of electricity comes from fossil fuels, an EV is equivalent to a gas car achieving 82 mpg.

In upstate New York, driving an EV compares to a gas car getting 219 mpg due to cleaner electricity. Nationwide, the average efficiency for EVs is equivalent to 94 mpg.

The study also found that an average EV sedan has 52% lower lifetime emissions compared to a 32 mpg gas sedan. For electric pickups, emissions are 57% lower compared to gas pickups.

By 2022, the US reduced coal-generated electricity to below 20%, while renewable energy sources increased to 39%.
