Raw wool felting - collar (animal friendly)

Описание к видео Raw wool felting - collar (animal friendly)

Some years ago I came across the technique of (wet) felting wool. I was immediately intrigued. In 2017, I bought a felted raw wool collar to go with a costume I had made at the time. Since then, I always wanted to be able to felt raw wool myself. I have tried several times with some cheaper raw wool and different, experimental techniques (since there aren’t many clear tutorials here on YouTube). After some trial and error, I felt confident enough to try and felt a higher quality raw wool.

In spring 2023, I was at a woolmarket. There was a flock of Schoonebeker sheep and a sheep-shear-champion, who was shearing the sheep right in front of spectators eyes (he sheared an entire sheep in under 2 minutes). I could pick a sheep from the flock from which I wanted to have the wool. So I choose the wool from a darker coloured sheep.
In this video, I am showing you what I did to make my own collar with this raw wool.

Materials used in this video:
Soap
Carded fleece
Raw wool
Water
Vinegar
Bucket
Squeeze Bottle
Towels
Bubblewrap
Mesh fabric
Felting needle (optional)

Raw wool felting is a win-win situation: the sheep is sheared and therefore still walks around happily in the pasture & you get to make wonderful things with the wool (and a bit of a workout).
A way better option than a wool rug with a leather backing!
