Best Of Jennifer Warnes 1982 IT GOES LIKE IT GOES

Jennifer Warnes has recorded three Oscar winning original songs in her long career. 'Up Where We Belong' from 'An Officer & A Gentleman', 'I've Had The Time Of My Life' from 'Dirty Dancing' and this sensitive piece of poetry from 'Norma Rae' which had an Academy Award winning performance from Sally Field. 'It Goes Like It Goes' had some stiff competition in 1979 - it was up against two songs memorialised by Melissa Manchester (in a history making night), with 'I'll Never Say Goodbye' from 'The Promise' and 'Through The Eyes Of Love' from the weepie 'Ice Castles' as well as the wonderful 'Rainbow Connection' from 'The Muppet Movie' and 'It's Easy To Say' from the Dudley Moore comedy '10'

Penned by David Shire and Norman Gimbel, 'It Goes Like It Goes' , was later recorded by Dusty Springfield among others, but it was Jennifer Warnes whose sublime voice was the first to make it famous. Its inclusion as the 2nd track on Side One of 'The Best Of Jennifer Warnes' was the first time it was featured on an album and very much a compelling reason to own the compilation. Personally I think 'Through The Eyes Of Love' written by legends Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager and performed by my beloved Melissa Manchester, should have won, but I can hear the beauty and the artistry of not only the music and lyrics of 'It Goes Like It Goes' but just how much the wondrous voice of Jennifer Warnes would have contributed to its success at the Academy Awards, even though the prize goes only to the songwriters.

In preparing these 10 uploads for 'The Best Of Jennifer Warnes', I have boosted levels and given more dynamism where possible to allow these delight-filled recordings to shine even more. I have owned this collection on vinyl, cassette and CD, nd wanted the mp3's to have the finest audio they could get! I have not overly edited the pictures here, as these posts are more about 'letting the music speak'. I have previously uploaded some of the songs on this compilation in years past, but really wanted to honour the 40th anniversary of this Arista retrospective, even if the album only came to be, due to the label wanting to squeeze a bit more value out of the boutique artist that they let slip through their fingers!

Oh well, It Goes Like It Goes.....
