*WHY* Did Atari Buy Intellivision???

I want to like the Intellivision, I really do. But for me, there's just very few truly standout games for the system. Most of them are either very lackluster or too complex for the era when they were created. So why then did Atari buy the Intellivision brand and nearly 200 games along with it? Is their own library of hundreds of absolute CLASSIC games too small?! I don't get it. But maybe going through a bunch of games we can figure it out.
