Ram, Sita, and Lakshman accompanied by the tribal chief, Guharaj, reached the banks of the Ganga, where they needed to cross over. There was only one boat and the boatman, named Kevet, sat on the boat. Despite seeing the Lord, Kevet remained seated. Ram requested him to take them across, but Kevet, a selfless and fearless devotee, expressed concern that if Ram's feet touched the boat, it might transform into the wife of a rishi, jeopardizing his livelihood. Kevet proposed washing Ram's feet to test the vessel's transformation, turning the situation into an opportunity to serve the Lord. After washing Ram's feet, Kevet requested that Ram ask him to perform the act, and with joy, he washed Ram's feet in a wooden vessel. Ram, Sita, and Lakshman then participated in a ritual to help Kevet's ancestors cross the ocean of life and death. Kevet, overwhelmed by the blessing of serving the Lord, refused any fare but accepted a ring from Sita as a prasad. In the end, Kevet humbly requested that when he passes away, Ram should take him across and promised to accept any blessing when Ram returns after 14 years. Ram and Sita then worshiped a Shivling before continuing into the forest.
