My wife has always loved sailing. We've gone together many times over the years. Recently, she expressed that she wanted to learn how to sail the boat by herself. This last weekend we took the Hobie Cat out to Lake Perris. We went over the basics of point of sail, setting the sails, tacking, jibing and all of the other manual controls. For the most part, she understood the mechanics of the boat and how to operate it but this was an opportunity to apply that knowledge through repetition to the point where the action becomes muscle memory. By the end of the couple hours that we were on the lake, she had the motions down and was able to control the boat without any help.
