While NEC's PC Engine (aka TurboGrafx-16) never caught on elsewhere in the world, the console was quite popular in Japan, rivaling the Super Famicom in terms of 16-bit market share. When it came time to produce a successor, NEC revealed the PC-FX, a 32-bit console with enhanced video playback capabilities.
