kartur ājñyayā prāpyate phalaṃ
karma kiṃ paraṃ karma tajjaḍam(1)

In thirty profound verses of the Upadesha Sara, Sri Ramana Maharshi expounds the crux of the four paths leading to Self-Realisation – Action (karma-yoga), Devotion (bhakti-yoga), Yoga (aṣṭāṅga-yoga) and Knowledge (jñāna-yoga). This is a very comprehensive yet compact text of 30 verses that gives seekers the essence of the advice given by a spiritual teacher to the student. These discourses are by Swami Ramakrishnananda (Chinmaya Mission, Nagapattinam), a master teacher, who with his witty style infuses humor in the most complex of Vedantic teachings to convey the essential subject in the simplest words.
