India: Delhi Orders Schools Closures with Immediate Effect, Heatwave Expected Till May 25

Indian authorities have ordered schools in the capital Delhi to shut early for summer vacation due to a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring to 47.4 degrees Celsius. According to a government order issued on Tuesday, Delhi city officials directed schools to close immediately in response to the extreme heat. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued warnings of "severe heatwave conditions" this week, with Delhi’s Najafgarh suburb recording the highest temperature in the country at 47.4 degrees Celsius on Monday. Other states, including Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan, have followed suit, also instructing schools to close because of the intense heat.
