Storyline:
A French professor and his daughter accompany Captain Nemo on a submarine adventure. These are elements of Verne's 1875 novel The Mysterious Island.

A strange “sea monster” is roaming the seas. The United States sends the warship Abraham Lincoln to investigate. During the search, the ship encounters the “monster” and damages their ship. The mysterious monster turns out to be the Nautilus, Captain Nemo's technologically advanced submarine. After the attack, the Abraham Lincoln drifted without a rudder. A “strange rescue” ensued. Captain Nemo guided his submarine under the direction of four men who had been on board and who had fallen overboard during the attack. The Nautilus surfaced and Nemo’s crew took the four rescued men aboard. Among the four were master janitor Ned Land, Professor Pierre Aronnax, his daughter, and the professor’s assistant. Once on board the submarine, the four men are forced to swear that they will not attempt to escape. The captain introduces them to his ship and the wonders of his underwater kingdom. He then takes them hunting on the seabed. Meanwhile, the fleeing Union soldiers on a Union Army airship are stranded on a mysterious island. The soldiers find a wild girl living alone. Soon, Charles Denver's yacht arrives on the island. The ghost of a woman (Princess Daaker) haunts Denver, a former British colonial officer in India, whom he assaulted years earlier. Rather than submit to him sexually, she stabbed herself and committed suicide. Denver then fled with her young daughter and abandoned her on the island. Tormented by his crime, he returns to find the young girl or find out what happened to her. One soldier plots to kidnap the child on Denver's yacht. Another overhears the plan and starts swimming to the yacht to save her. At the same time, Nemo discovers that the yacht belongs to Denver, the enemy he has been searching for all along. The Nautilus destroys the yacht with a torpedo, but Captain Nemo saves the girl and her savior.
In elaborate flashbacks to India, Nemo reveals that he is Prince Daaker and that he created the Nautilus to get revenge on Charles Denver. He was overjoyed to discover that the abandoned wild girl was his long-lost daughter, but his emotions overcame him and he died. His loyal crew buried him at the bottom of the ocean. They demobilized and abandoned the Nautilus.
