First, why should you pay attention to these metrics? Membership analytics give you insight into what drives your members to engage with you. This is critical if you want to create an experience that encourages them to stay engaged. And this turns into higher customer acquisition, retention, and loyalty. In short, they guide you to make decisions that keep your membership site generating income.

Now let’s dive into the specific metrics:

Net Revenue

Net revenue is the amount of money you’ve earned over a set period of time, minus your overhead and refunds. This may be measured monthly, quarterly, or annually.

Monthly recurring revenue (MRR)

Monthly recurring revenue is how much money you earn each month on an ongoing basis.

In subscription-based businesses, profits often trickle in over time. MRR makes it easier to track revenue and growth and can help you set realistic expectations for future revenue.

Average revenue per user

ARPU measures how much your average user or customer spends with your business. It’s a very powerful metric because of how much insight it gives you into your members' willingness to invest in your products.

Churn

Churn refers to the percentage of customers who leave or stop paying over a given period of time. It’s a good measure of your ability to retain members.

Content engagement

Be sure to understand how much your members are consuming your content. Are they watching all the way through videos? Downloading supplemental materials? Listening to podcast episodes?

Course progress

If any part of membership includes courses, you’ll want to track the progress your members are making in each of your courses or products. This helps you gauge how people are interacting with the course and if they are struggling or finding value in it.
