No NPC necessary but I had one make the raid easier. I got lucky by having Staraptor. Intimidate ability and Feather Dance.

The Strat...
Stall until Emboar resets your stats. The stalling is meant to keep all your heal cheers for HP and the Burn Status.
Harden 3 times.
Swords dance until Emboar resets his own stats. At this time, I would use a heal cheer assuming that your HP is already down to half.
Now, rotate between earthquake to charge tour tera orb and swords dance to boost your attack stat to +6.
Tera ground and use earthquake until right before Emboar's shield breaks or right before Emboar's HP reaches 40%.
At this time, immediately use taunt to prevent Emboar from using bulk up twice.
Continue to use earthquake til you get the K.O.
