CrazyTownReef Aquascape - Building a Successful Reef Habitat

This video takes a trip through the aquascaping process I followed to create the best habitat I could, for everything that lives in my reef tank.

When I started planning this two years ago, I didn’t realize creating a “habitat” would be such a thing as it is right now - back then it was all “negative space” and crazy branchy stuff that I find very confusing to look at. But what I’ve done here is how I’ve always approached aquascaping in my tanks. What do I plan to keep? How much space will it need? What about territories? Can I plan ahead to avoid known potential problems? How do I minimize warfare both for fish and corals? How do I want to experience my tank when I’m looking at it and how does that fit with maintaining a low-stress environment for my fish? Can I create light zones for high- and low-light corals? What about full-tank crazy flow (always a challenge with a mixed reef!).

These and more questions were all considered when I designed and built these rock structures. And it has paid off because I think the habitat functions beautifully, both for me and the animals (from what I can see in their behaviour).
