Behind the Book Part #1-How Does a Checkbook Become a Story?

After spending many days at History Colorado, the museum asked Jody to engage with a live audience about how records became her book, Gold-Fated Family. The son of J.J. Brown, Lawrence P. Brown, donated fourteen boxes of documents, including receipts, photos, maps, and family letters—a veritable goldmine of data and memories.

There are four videos that comprise the conversation at History Colorado, in Denver, Colorado. Jody shows the Ibex Mining checkbook in part one and talks about correcting the year of J.J.’s massive gold strike. Part two uses photographs of J.J. and Lawrence Brown to illustrate the father-son relationship. The ending for Gold-Fated Family resulted from telegrams in part three. In part four, Jody responds candidly, to inquiries from history lovers regarding the inspiration behind the book and its impact on her.

Gold-Fated Family: J.J. Brown Husband of Unsinkable Margaret “Molly” Brown is available from Amazon.
