Expedition 57 crewmembers Nick Hague of NASA and Alexey Ovchinin of Roscosmos returned to Baikonur, Kazakhstan Oct. 11 after a launch abort that resulted in a ballistic landing. The crewmembers were recovered downrange by NASA and Roscosmos support teams and flown back to their launch site where they were greeted by their families and dignitaries. After the crew was safely recovered and flown back to Baikonur, Roscosmos Director-General Dmitri Rogozin and NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine discussed the day’s events and the strength of the International Space Station partnership in handling the contingency.
