International Life Insurance Co. was a nonresident of California.Lowell Franklin, a California resident, entered a life insurance agreement with Empire Mutual Insurance Company, an Arizona corporation.International Life Insurance agreed to assume Empire's insurance obligations to Franklin and mailed a reinsurance certificate to Franklin's residence in California.Franklin accepted this offer and paid insurance premiums to International Life Insurance from his California residence.After Franklin's death, his mother and insurance beneficiary Lulu B. McGee, sued International Life Insurance in California to enforce their life insurance contract with her son.McGee won a judgment against International Life Insurance in a California court.After the the Court of Civil Appeals of Texas refused to enforce the California court's final judgment against International Life Insurance, the US Supreme Court reversed and ordered the Texas court to enforce the judgment.
