Sumy region in Ukraine continues to face heavy Russian shelling.

Russia has announced that it is sending additional artillery to the Kursk region, where the infiltration of Ukrainian troops continues.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described it as a precautionary measure to prevent the capture of the city of Sumy.

The Russian city of Sudzha has been occupied by Ukrainian troops. They are said to currently control 1,200 square kilometres, nine dozen villages and were supposed to reach up to 30 km into the Russian interior. Now, according to a Czech television reporter, there is relative calm. The quiet time of day for the three soldiers who oversee the former border crossing is only disturbed by vehicles passing through.

Kyiv is deploying more troops to Russia amid the shift of fighting and has announced that they wanted to create a buffer zone behind the border. Most of the attacks are supposed to be coming from the Kursk region, which has forced the evacuation of the border area.

Czech TV reporters were 10 kilometres from the Russian border. But even in this zone, people still face danger. When our reporters last drove through here two weeks ago, buildings in this area had not yet been hit. There are visible signs of heavy fighting all around now, whether it's holes in the ground or whether it's a destroyed houses.

One of these bombs destroyed Mr. Leonid's property last week. He and his wife lived five kilometres from the border. But the increased intensity of the fighting has driven them away. So they moved to their daughter's house. Four days after arriving in a seemingly safer place, they were again hit by a Russian attack. While the daughter and grandchildren have relocated to the larger city of Sumy, the elderly couple continue to stay.
