The VPR-5 is a 1-inch C-format portable broadcast video recorder. Developed as a joint-venture with the AMPEX corporation of America it was introduced in 1983 as the world's smallest, lightest broadcast quality portable video reorder. Available in both PAL (for European) and NTSC (North American) television formats the VPR-5 allowed broadcast quality video to be shot on-location.

*The VPR5 can be broadly divided into early and late models.
The difference between the previous model and the latter model is 1. In terms of appearance, the shape of the button has increased from round to vertically long so that it is easy to operate when wearing gloves. 2. The software has been changed, making it easier to use when recording outdoors.

*The tape squeaks when the tape is running because the tape tension adjustment is insufficient.
It is difficult to adjust the tension of the tape without a special jig.
