A contingent of Australian advisors is embedded within Train Advise Assist Command – Air (TAAC-Air) at Forward Operating Base Oqab in Kabul, Afghanistan. The mission of TAAC-Air is to support Afghan Air Force counterparts to develop a professional, capable and sustainable Air Force. The ADF members of TAAC-Air work alongside air force and army personnel from the Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Romania, UK and the US to advise Afghan Air Force leadership. Together, they are developing professional Airmen capable of planning, leading, employing, and sustaining decisive airpower operations. Around 300 ADF members from the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Air Force and Defence civilians are deployed in Afghanistan as part of Operation Highroad. Operation Highroad is the ADF's commitment to NATO's Resolute Support train, advise and assist mission, which has replaced the previous NATO-led International Security Assistance Force mission.
