Video on how to knit the faux cable knit stitch (also known as the mock cable stitch; this is a traditional knitting pattern)
(Abbreviations: K=knit; P=purl; RT=right twist; st=stitch).

RT: K 2 st together, but leave both st on left needle, then K first st on left needle again, then drop off both st from left needle.

Variation 1: multiple of 4 st + 2 st (4-row repeat)
Cast on a multiple of 4 st + 2 st (eg, 26 st or 34 st)
Row 1: P2, *K2, P2. Repeat from * to end.
Row 2: K2, *P2, K2. Repeat from * to end.
Row 3: P2, *RT, P2. Repeat from * to end.
Row 4: Same as Row 2
Repeat Rows 1-4 for pattern.

Variation 2: multiple of 3 st + 2 st (4-row repeat)
Cast on a multiple of 3 st + 2 st (eg, 26 st or 32 st)
Row 1: *RT, P1. Repeat from * to last 2 st, then RT.
Row 2: *P2, K1. Repeat from * to last 2 st, then P2.
Row 3: *K2, P1. Repeat from * to last 2 st, then K2.
Row 4: Same as Row 2
Repeat Rows 1-4 for pattern
