On May 22, 2025, the DuPage Birding Club continued its Birding Adventures series with seasoned birding traveler, Denis Kania, who shared his experiences from several trips to Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is a great country to visit either as a first-time tropical birder or a tropical veteran. Although it may be a small country, it has a lot to offer in terms of both environmental and species diversity. In fact, 950 species of bird have been recorded in Costa Rica, including 600 resident species. And there are 54 species of hummingbird alone!

Denis has taken several trips to the country across a wide variety of formats and in addition to information about the country in general will be including comparisons of the different ways you can explore it. The presentation includes lots of bird sightings and many tips about getting around, lodging, birding guides, safety, and more.

Birding Adventures are long-form videos of a trip club members have taken recently, including their photographs as well as logistical info that may be useful if you want to plan your own trip. Over time, we'll hopefully build up a travel guide of sorts for those interested in undertaking similar adventures.
