Ocean 4 Life – Marine protection for sustainable livelihoods

Описание к видео Ocean 4 Life – Marine protection for sustainable livelihoods

Marine protected areas are an important instrument in marine conservation. They serve to preserve ecosystem services, protect biodiversity, achieve socio-economic goals and secure livelihoods. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is committed to the goal of protecting 30 percent of the world's oceans by 2030. A key instrument is the Blue Action Fund which was founded by BMZ in cooperation with KfW Development Bank to enable NGOs to protect marine biodiversity and foster sustainable livelihoods in coastal communities.

The video shows the project Oceans Alive iSimangaliso which is supported by the Blue Action Fund and implemented by Wildlands Conservation Trust (WILDTRUST), through its WILDOCEANS programme. The project supports and implements site-specific tailored interventions to increase management effectiveness of existing marine protected areas within iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site in the north-eastern province of South Africa.
