IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) One of the most watched and closest Senate Races across the nation came through the corridor Tuesday when First Lady Michelle Obama was at the University of Iowa with Democrat Bruce Braley.

She started by addressing the elephant in the room, making a joke out of her mispronunciation of Bruce Braley s name in Des Moines almost two weeks before. She said she calls her daughters the wrong name all the time and calls the President, Bo, the name of the family dog.

It was a sympathetic crowd with most people who came through the event already knowing that they d be voting for Bruce Braley.

But experts say an event like this can help get the people who attend mobilized to convince others to get involved too, and not just on November 4th. Early voting locations are already open around campus, and the First Lady and Braley both promoted the Old Capital location just across the street.

Democrats have generally been better at voting early than their Republican peers and 2014 is no different. The latest Quinnipiac poll says that Braley has a 51-37 percentage point lead over Joni Ernst when it comes to early voting in a race where the same polls predict a dead heat at the end.

"Getting out the early vote is very important in this campaign and this year republicans have done a phenomenal job with that, said Republican Senate Candidate Joni Ernst at an event a few days earlier.

You can vote early in person right now, said First Lady Obama. Right now! Look at that! Right now! Because now until November 4th every day is Election Day.
