十字架山 A Terrifying Journey - Hill Of Crosses

Terrifying not because of the Hill of Crosses, but the weather.
I have no experience to walk in the snow. This is the most memorable day of my 12-day journey. Although the road ahead is full of uncertainty, only by taking the first step, moving forward, there will be answers.

可怕的不是十字架山，而是天氣，因為我沒有在雪地裡行走的經驗。我被十字架山的文章吸引了，也被神秘的傳說深深的感動。朋友們都覺得我安排這個行程很不明智，因為他們說天氣預告是零下7度+降雪。我沒有要逞強，其實內心是忐忑不安，甚至恐慌。我猶豫了一整晚不能入睡，彷彿聽見了十字架山的呼喚。除了爬文，我還請教三位我覺得可信賴之人，遊客中心、導遊小姐姐以及賣車票的漂亮阿姨。統一答案就是沒有不好的天氣，只有不適當的穿著，十字架山是一年四季，任何時間都可以去的聖地。这是我12天旅程中最难忘的一天，虽然前方的路充满未知數，但只要迈出第一步，往前走，就会有答案

當時的蘇聯政府認為十字架和山丘是敵對和有害的象徵。1961年木製十字架被打破並燒毀，金屬十字架用作廢金屬，石頭和混凝土十字架被掩埋。這座山多次被推土機摧毀，他們禁止人們進入該地區，道路被警察封鎖，由蘇聯軍隊和KGB共同守衛，甚至企圖淹沒這塊領土。儘管做了所有的努力，每個早上十字架都會重新出現。

1993年9月7日，天主教教宗若望·保禄二世访问十字架山，宣布这是一个盼望、和平、爱与牺牲的地方。

The Soviet government considered the crosses and the hill hostile and harmful symbols. In 1961 wooden crosses were broken and burnt, metal crosses were used as scrap metal, and stone and concrete crosses were buried. The hill was many times destroyed by bulldozers. They forbade people to come into the region, and the roads were blocked by police, guarded by both the Soviet army and KGB. There were some attempts to flood the territory. Despite all these endeavors, crosses would reappear after each night.
