This is a tutorial showing how to replace an intake side VVT solenoid (or Camshaft Position Actuator) on a 2015 Holden Captiva 7 LS 2.4L petrol. I had the engine light appear on the dash while driving. Then it disappeared several days later only to come on again. In that time I researched the fault and used a OBDII reader (scanner that plugs into the car and can read fault codes from the cars computer) to check for fault codes. P0010 'A Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit/ Open Bank 1' fault had been found using the OBD2 scanner. From what I can ascertain 'Bank 1' is the intake side and 'Bank 2' is the exhaust side of the engine. Once I replaced the VVT solenoid for the intake side of the engine this fixed the fault. The only thing I noticed prior to replacing the VVT solenoid was occasionally (1 in 20 starts) the car would sound awful on starting the engine for a few seconds but then run OK (this had been happening occasionally for years). You can hear this on the 1st start of the engine in the video. Otherwise their were no other symptoms that I noticed when using the car.
Hopefully this can help people save money and do a simple job to fix the fault themselves.
