Off-road section from Korita to Rikavačko Jezero via TT4 trail (2025 update).
This is, in my opinion, the most scenic and rewarding way to reach Rikavačko Jezero, winding through the stunning Kučka Krajina highlands. Unlike the more commonly used Bukumirsko-Možura route, this leg of the TT4 offers everything - panoramic ridgelines, deep valleys, heart-racing drop-offs, and wild, untouched alpine terrain.
The route kicks off in Korita at around 1,400 m elevation and climbs toward Širokar Pass (approx. 1,790 m), with several steep ascents and descents along the way - roughly 800 meters of total elevation gain packed into just 15.6 km. While Rikavačko Jezero itself sits at about 1,448 m, getting there isn’t a gradual uphill cruise - it’s a rollercoaster of tight switchbacks, cliffside ledges, and rugged washed-out patches that demand proper off-road gear and some driver confidence.
As of 2025, the trail is rougher than it was in 2023 and 2024. There are new washouts, plenty of loose rock, and some narrow sections where you'll need to inch through carefully. The route hasn’t been cleared yet this season (it's usually taken care of by off-roaders or individuals like myself), so expect some light bushwhacking and moments where having a spotter helps. Some parts near Širokar Pass are perched on the edge of sheer drops, and visibility in corners is limited - not a beginner route, but absolutely worth it.
The final 3 km descent to Rikavačko Jezero is intense. It's a steep, rocky ride down into a glacial basin surrounded by vertical mountain walls. The lake itself is 520 meters long, 325 meters wide, and up to 14 meters deep - a pristine alpine spot with incredible views of both Montenegrin and Albanian highlands.
For the return, I took the eastern TT4 route toward Veruša, going over the infamous Mokra Pass. As expected, it's still heavily washed out and technical. You’ll need good clearance and suspension flex, or just take it slow and precise. There’s currently a bulldozer parked at 42°34'49.1"N, 19°35'33.6"E - likely leveling and improving the road. Once you're past that spot, the trail toward Katun Mokra has noticeably improved this year - much smoother and more level than in previous seasons.
If you're after a challenging, remote, and stunningly beautiful trail, this section of TT4 from Korita to Rikavačko Jezero is the one. Bring a capable rig, some patience, and your sense of adventure - you’ll earn every meter of it, and the payoff is huge.
UPDATE (July 26, 2025): The TT4 route from Katun Mokra (Mokra Pass) has been fully leveled and slightly widened by a bulldozer. We drove up Mokra Pass that Saturday all the way to Katun and found the trail in good condition (compared to previous years) - no ruts at all (at least until the next heavy rain or snowmelt).
The climb is still very steep, with gradients reaching up to 19% on some switchbacks, so low range or plenty of horsepower is still necessary. But overall, the road is currently in good shape and fully passable.
I also spoke briefly with the bulldozer crew - they mentioned plans to level the entire TT4 stretch from Korita. Additionally, Širokar Pass has been leveled and widened in several places, making it easier to pass oncoming vehicles.
