What is WIP and how do effective scrum masters manage this?

Описание к видео What is WIP and how do effective scrum masters manage this?

WIP is an acronym for 'work in progress' and it's a measure of how much work the #scrumteam are working on at any given time.

A #scrummaster will review the work in progress to understand whether the #developmentteam have taken on too much work in a given sprint or to understand whether there are impediments to progress that prevent the work in progress from being completed within the #sprint.

Sometimes, a team will need to abandon work because of an impediment to completion of that work, for example, a company policy or a lack of skills necessary to complete the task, and the #scrummaster will track what happens to the work in progress as a result of the disruption.

In some cases, the work will move back into the #backlog but in other cases, it will simply stand in the blocked column of the Agile board the team are using to track work in progress.

The #wip or work in progress data will help scrum masters facilitate conversations with the team to understand why the work in progress is not being completed and what can be done or should be done to remove those impediments.

John McFadyen has a great deal of experience working with some of the most complex, largest #agile transformations in the UK and Europe. He has worked with some of the highest performing #scrum teams in the world and brings his experience and knowledge to answer some of the most compelling questions our students have in classes.

In this short video, John explains what WIP is and how effective Scrum Masters deal with it.
