Join us for this summery tutorial to make a beautiful, realistic (although larger than life!) Peacock Butterfly! It is needle felted onto water soluble paper which allow you to achieve a thin wing, a technique that can also be used for flowers, leaves and much more! In Part One, we will get started on the main shape and colouring, in preparation for Part Two, where we will add the finer detailing.

Per butterfly you will need:

Dyed South American Merino Tops:
2g of Deep Red, 1g of Yellow and 1g of Cream
3g of dark brown Milk Sheep batts
1g of Black dyed NZ Merino batts
1g of white Australian Merino batts
pinch of Light Blue NZ Merino batts
pinch of Fairy Mix Merino/Silk mixed batts.
12x18cm piece of Water Soluble Paper
brown antennae/stamens or thin black wire
felting needles (#36 coarse, #38 medium, #40 fine)
felting mat

Pen or pencil
sharp scissors
bowl of water (for dissolving the paper)
towel
