Sonnavannam seitha perumal temple one of the 108 divyadesams of lord Vishnu situated in the town called Kanchipuram located opposite to the divyadesam-44 ashtabuja perumal temple and located about 1km away from Kanchipuram varadaraja perumal temple the legend is that once lord Brahma made a yaga in Kanchipuram for which he does not invite his wife saraswathi which made her angry so she made many obstacles to stop the yaga but lord Vishnu saved the yaga from all the obstacles atlast sarswathi took the form of vegavati river and run very faster to stop the yaga now lord Vishnu sleeped as a dam between vegavati river and yagasala and made the yaga to be successful and stayed there itself in the name of yathotakari as per the wishes of lord Brahma there is another name for this perumal which is sonnavannam seitha perumal there is a interesting story behind this name once a pallava king apporached kanikannan who was the discipline of thirumazhisai alwar to make him younger for which kanikannan refused which made the pallava king angry and he asked kanikannan to go outside of Kanchipuram and he told this event to his teacher thirumazhisai alwar and he told this to yathotakari perumal and asked him also to leave Kanchipuram and perumal respected the words of thirumazhisai alwar and left Kanchipuram after that pallava king apolozied to kanikannan and all the three came again to Kanchipuram as the yathotakari perumal had obeyed the words of thirumazhisai alwar he is called as sonnavannam seitha perumal poigai alwar,bhoothalwar, thirumazhisai alwar, kanikannan,lord Brahma and Goddess sarswathi had got the darshan of this perumal poigai alwar who is first among all the twelve alwars was born in this temple which is the most important feature in this temple
