This video shows how we can measure the speed of sound in air. In order to calculate the speed of a wave, we need to measure the distance covered by a wave in the time it takes to cover that distance.

If our partner claps two wooden blocks together at a far enough distance there will be a delay between seeing the blocks come together and hearing the sound (this is because light travels much faster than sound). We can start the timer as soon as we see them come together, then stop it when we hear the sound. We input the distance and the time delay into the equation for speed: speed = distance/time, v = s/t.
