Patrick looks at the Messier catalogue and how its omission of a number of bright deep sky objects led him to invent the Caldwell catalogue. He says his surname is Caldwell-Moore but you have to go back to his grandfather before that is mentioned on a birth certificate. Patrick's own birth certificate names him as Patrick Alfred Moore, with no Caldwell in sight! So, in a way, the catalogue is named after his grandfather.... First broadcast on June 25th 2000.
