Arctic War: No fish in the sea | ICE RACE | Full Episode 2

The Arctic is one of the most unique ecosystems planet Earth has to offer. However, the fragile Arctic ecosystem is under threat.

Beneath the surface of the Arctic, the war for its resources has already begun. Marine resources such as cod could once be found in the Arctic. Due to predatory activities the stocks have been drastically depleted. Still the war over the Arctic region and its resources continues. Nations like the USA, Canada, Russia and Norway are going head to head. Energy and marine resources as well as new shipping routes arouse the desires of the littoral states. Global warming and new technologies make it easier to reach and exploit the treasures of the Arctic.

Cod had been the backbone of many fishing villages in Newfoundland but due to massiv overfishing the cod stocks collapsed and to this day have not recovered. The fishing ban has given rise to illegal activities in the Arctic and global warming is further threatening the already endangered species.
